Possible Nvidia X-fi incompatibilty???

Hey,
I have recently had to upgrade graphics card to an XFX 9500GT and I also upgraded the mobo chipset drivers for the latest NVidia chipset. I also did a clean install of Vista x64. The sound card was the last thing I had to install, I could install it, but on restart I kept getting a BSOD error code 0x00000124 or 0x0000009c. The only way to get Vista to startup was to restore to the point before installing the X-Fi XtremeGamer card. After reading the internet I have come to the conclusion that it's an incompatibilty with the NVidia stuff and the Creative sound card.
Does everyone else agree with this or is it something else. Idon't want to go and buy a simple 5.1 sound card if that's not the problem.
Any advise is appreciated.
Cheers

WB ed, i believe this error can be fixed by disabling C1E (CPU Enhanced Halt) in your bios, it usually is only disabled for more stability in overclocking, so the computer doesnt hang or bluescreen, but i assume you havent been overclocking?

Interesting, I shall have a look at that, this is the first time I have seen this as an option to cure BSOD and this sort of issue...
Cheers I'll report back when I've tried it.

Will look when I get home, I'm at work atm, luckily this site isn't blocked by the website filter.
I had read at a few places that Creative drivers were a common problem when installed onto an NVidia chipset... It's mainly the 0x0000009c error I get but every now and then it throws the 0x00000124 at me.
I haven't overclocked my system, it's sufficient as is, I hope this cures it, had troubles with my comp for 3 weeks now.

Cheers

the 0x0124 error is the C1E fix, the 0x09c error is going to be a bit more troublesome, read here http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=329284&sd=RMVP basically that is saying theres a hardware fault with something you got, what i would do is test the graphics card and the soundcard individually in someone elses system, if you have someone who is generous to do that for you, and see if the same errors come up, or remove your soundcard and use the onboard to test it.

I only get the 0x000009c when all drivers are installed and I do the compulsory restart after installing the last driver. All was fine when I just had the Graphics card installed and not the sound card. This is a new sound card I brought when I was having the same problem with my X-Fi XtremeAudio. now I know that's okay. I think I am going to have to hold a gun to my friends head and get him to test them.

My BSOD's only happen after Vista has loaded, i.e. the loading bar screen has finished and the Vista symbol should show in the middle of the screen, but it doesn't, instead bang blue screen dump.

It could be that my computer doesn't like me anymore. me and my brother have used it a hell of alot. I might just build myself a quad core and be done.

We'll see.

well now i can see why you think its a graphics problem, but i assure you its just the soundcard thats causing the bluescreen, i can only suggest you take the card back to the retailer and try and get a new one, say that its been diagnosed and its faulty.

Great news.
My PC is now flying.Touch wood it does for a while now.
I went and purchased a PC Line 5.1 sound card and I haven't had any trouble, even checked my comp using a PC Health program, all is fine. I put the X_fi sound cards into my mates PC (after telling him he could have 1) and both worked fine. I have concluded that it was a driver conflict between X-Fi with graphics card or mobo chipset.
All I need to do now is get Vista to start up a little quicker and I'll be happy.

Thanks for your help MrNeeds.

for what its worth I just found that i could actually install my xfi on vista after heaps of failed attempts. The only difference was that i had changed from an 8800GT to an ati 4850.

Ive laid my installation woes at the feet of my old 8800GT and or its drivers, but dont listen to me bcoz im pretty stoopid :)

why are you buying unneccessary hardware, the Reaktek HD Audio is flawless on my system, digital and all, your motherboard has onboard audio Schap3lleCorby, i dont see why you need to buy something like that when you have a perfectly good sound card built onto the motherboard.

bcoz Battlefield 2 and 2142 have a 128 tracks ultra high setting which only runs with an xfi :)

that and I record - well I would but for the appalling latency, all but really expenisve cards have.

Hi folks,

I've recently bought a Creative USB X-fi 5.1 external sound blaster. What i've experienced as negative is the Sound Delay when watching movies (divx ro DVD).
Can anyone give me suggestions for removing the problem?
I'm running Vista Ultimate X64 on HP 6830 (Intel dual core T3200 on 2,16 Ghz, 4GB DDR2 800).

Thanks in advance,
