The only Con is that you are hurting the site. Websites, including forums, cost money to run. Often the website is paid on a per view basis for ads. Turning off pop up ads or preventing the ads by using other means, will actually hurt website that you enjoy.
Many sites will allow you to become a member to avoid seeing pop ups, if so that is the approach that should be used.

For your additional information, this Site prohibits discussion of Ad blocking software, they correctly feel that it is a theft of service to use such software on this site.

Hi jasond,

There is a tutorial here on Popup Blocker: http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/135081-internet-explorer-pop-up-blocker.html. This is different from the Ad blocking software prohibited by the forum. Perhaps if you ask there, since Brink answers most tutorial questions, Brink can provide some additional advice on at least this blocking method.

P.S. I've been on forums where some options were disabled by having popup blocking enabled (e.g., one had an HTML editor that worked as a pop-up and it would not function if popups were disabled). Of course, all it took was an exception to resolve the problem, but it does show that it can be more than just an ad revenue or ethics/rules thing. Some similarly disabled features may be harder to recognize or identify (and thus you may miss out on something you would prefer having).

I'm assuming you're using Internet Explorer.
I actually had an issue in Opera at one time with this site. Had it set to block unwanted popups, so when I went to add an attachment to a post, it would block the box that it brings up to add images/files to the post. There were other sites it affected too, but it was random.
