Plug and play/ blank device mgr/ no sound

Hello,

7 days after my Dell warranty expired my XPS 410 w/ Vista HP 32 bit has a big issue.

I am a novice but I have gathered that my plug and play is the issue. In services.msc, I cannot start plug and play, therefore cannot start windows audio service. It says plug and play service started and stopped. some services stop automatically if not in use. For windows audio i get error code 1059, circular dependency.

When I open device manager it is blank. I have absolutely no idea what is going on, this is all of a sudden. Also causing windows explorer to crash. I have done system restore and it still is not fixed, restore will not complete.

Any assistance is appreciated.

So, it's a software problem. Use System Restore to roll back the PC to a time when the sound worked. Your personal problems won't be touched. Try reinstalling the sound drivers if that doesn't work. That'll probably fix everything.

check that these services are set to automatic start (not delayed)
dcom server process launcher
remote procedure call
windows audio

circular dependencey errors are often caused by services not starting or configured correctly, has there any changes to the o/s recently? new hardware fitted or failed. administrator account changed or removed?

its also worth trying scanning for faults
system file check ( sfc.exe /scannow)
drive data errors (my computer/localdrive/properties/tools, check for errors)
and the drives hardware health, use the manufacterers diagnostic app.

The only changes to the software I made was plugging in a Logicam webcam (a really old one where I cant find the drivers for) which was detected fine and worked fine.

I saw on a nonther forum that this may have been the cause of the problem and that the soultion was to uninstall the logicam driver. But I dont have one installed!??

Please can someone offer some insight into this problem??

I simply cannot afford to put my PC into a shop and I need it for work.

I'm an absolute novice with PCs and really require some help.
