"Please insert correct CD-ROM"

Ive got a problem with my recently purchased computer, everytime I install and attempt to run any game it tells me "Please insert correct CD-ROM, select ok and restart application", does anybody have an idea what could be wrong?

Do you have 1 dvd drive or 2?

Are you able to install the games without any problems? Does the problem only occur when you try to run the games? Many games, even those which offer full installation of the data from the disk, actually check the contents of the drive from which they were installed for the program disk. This is not because it needs any data from the disk (because all that has been installed on your HDD); rather it is a check to make sure that you have the actual disk.

Thanks alot,

I have no problems whatsoever intstalling the games, only running them. I will launch the .exe (whether from in the /programfiles folder or the disk directly), and both bring about the same problem. Any ideas?

Try right-clicking the game shortcut and select Run as administrator.

Do you also run Virtual drives? if so, this may be the culprit, try disableing the virtual drives and play the game.

Other state that some games might have a problem with SATA drives.

Running as the administrator did not seem to fix the problem, and I do not run any virtual drives. :S

Which games are you having trouble with?

So far I have tried Battlefield 1942 and Empires: Dawn of the Modern World. (Yes they're old, but fun nevertheless)

When you installed them did you get a "This program did not install properly" message? Also with punkbuster (I know those games don't run it. I'm using it as a example) it doesn't run 64 bit yet. That might be the case with your games.

The games installed with out a hitch, the installation process isnt bugged, because i have installed several older games that require the disk to install but not play, and they work fine.

I dont know if this helps at all, but I had to re-install vista on my computer recently aswell..

Why did you have to re-install it?

For some reason my hard drive was reporting I had some 480 gb in use in my C:/ when i knew for a fact i had only 19. I ended up getting extremely frustrated with it and ended up re-installing vista.

Sorry man, I'm out of idea's. Hopefully someone will know what is wrong and will help you fix it .

some insight on what could be happening is that your drivers for your cd rom device work but only to an extent, sounds like your drive is giving up, try uninstalling it from the device manager, restart your computer and let windows detect and install it, hopefully this should fix it. if not, as long as you have the discs, you could (and in no way am i endorsing this) use a no-cd crack, this should only be used as a last resort, i shall not tell you where to get them because no-cd cracks are most commonly used for illegal versions of games, i shall not be a part of illegal distribution. And most No-cd cracks are viruses.
