Please help!!

I have tried to do everything....I have run different spyware programs and tried to manually do it and I am pretty efficient with computers so I don't know what to do anymore! I have an empty folder icon on my desktop that won't disappear! I try to right click and delete it....no option to. I try to create a shortcut...it won't create...I try to move it to a different folder...won't work! It is an empty folder with no name on it. I have Windows Vista. Can anyone please help??

Hi xxsassxx31, and welcome to Vista Forums.

If you have the 32 bit (x86) version of Vista, then you might try the free program Unlocker on it to delete it.

I have had this issue before SP1. Only way I could clear it was turn off the PC for 5 minutes or so then power it back on then i was able to delete the file. Strange stuff.

Thanks for the help but I downloaded unlocker and when I right click on the file it doesn't give me the option for the "unlocker". Everytime I try to open the file it just opened a folder and closes it and when I right click on it, it says "Open, Explore, and Create a Shortcut" and when I try to create a shortcut it doesn't create one. It is really frustrating.....same thing happens when I right click after unlock is on my comp...

It sounds like it is a Shell Namespace that has gotten corrupted.

In windows explorer, go to the desktop and tell me if you can see it there - if so, when you right click, are there any options? If so, list them....

Yes, when I right click on it, it gives me the options "Open, Explore, and Create A Shortcut" and it doesn't let me do anything and when I open it, the folder opens and closes....

See if by chance this is what the problem is. Try Method Two in Option Two of this tutorial to see if it can restore the name of the folder so that you can delete it afterwards.

That is definitely a FUBARed Shall namespace icon. I use those same types for my Textless Desktop icons with extended context menus.

Have you gone to change your desktop icons from display properties to see if you can get it to remove? Laos, have you tried Herby's Textless Desktop Icons yourself?

Those things won't show as being removed until you either refresh the desktop, log out an back in or reboot.
