Playstation 3 to monitor via HDMI

Hey guys, I know this isnt a playstation forum but You guys have always helped in the past.
So my problem is that I have a playstation (I do have a cool gaming pc, but i wanted a cool blu-ray player too)
Now for the real problem - I have it hooked up to my Benq G2420HD, and it has been happily chugging away at full HD (1920x1080) for awhile, but then all of a sudden it stopped outputting to that resolution outputting at all, so I researched and then found how to reset to low resolution (by holding the power button for 5 seconds when you turn it on) so then I started testing and the max it will go is 1080i (1680x1050) nice, but not full HD whenever I do it it now goes all garbled and nothing displays. So I updated the software and firmware and same issue, so I bought a new HDMI cable (thought I'd need another in the future anyway) and even went and tried on a full HD tv, which still didnt work.
So I rang up Sony after all this and the toolbox says that he cant help me because I used it on a monitor and it was designed for TV - I think that is complete bull because it worked before and now it doesnt, warranty me sony?
anyone think of anything else that I can do apart from taking a lawsuit against sony - I know PC is so much easier to work with, but it would be good if I could get sony on a dos or terminal level and fix some stuff up.

Sony's a bunch of ass. Their products look cool, sure, but once you buy something they promptly try to screw you on the margins and that includes restricting cross-platform compatibilities. I guaran-damned-tee you that full HD would work if your "computer monitor" was a Sony.

I know, I find it ridiculous it IS full HD it IS HDCP compliant, I was going to buy a Samsung series 8 LED soon, so I will tear them a new one if they dont warranty me for it when (and I dont say if - because it was working before) it doesnt work with my new TV
