Player that can handle .mkv with PGS subs?

I've been trying to find a player that can handle .mkv files with PGS subtitles.

I've tried the VLC nightly builds. As soon as it smells a PGS subtitle in an .mkv file, it disappears with no error message.

Tried Splash Lite. Plays .mkv fine but only supports .srt subs(I know how to extract the PGS subs and process them, but I still want a software player for Windows that can handle PGS subs.)

I tried some other players based on MPlayer but I couldn't really figure out how I was supposed to use them.

The roomer is new players based on ffmpeg are supposed to support PGS subs, but I haven't found one for Windows yet that I can use in real life.

Is anyone using something free that works?

You need to install the CCC pack. Combine Community Codec pack. I am horrible with hyperlinks so googling it will find it for you. I had the same problem with some vids in Mastraka format and I installed that and it ran with in Windows Media player without a problem. Will not work with Media Center so dont even try. If you are using the 64 bit version of Media Player, there is another codec pack out there, usually googling will find that too.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the reply. Looking around I see the latest ffdshow supposedly supports PGS BluRay subs. I think I'll mess with that since I have Sharks codecs.

I don't know why VLC keeps posting releases claiming PGS subtitle support. Even if you don't touch any of the controls and just let it play, as soon as a subtitle is about to appear, the program just goes away. It's frustrating.

Thanks for the replies. I just tried MPC Home Cinema Beta for 64 bit and it shows 'em. The Subtitle setting is grayed out in the context menu, but it does display them.. at least in the .mkv I just tried.

I tried the latest VLC pre but it still disappears as soon as you touch it when playing .mkv with a PGS sub.

Looks like they are making progress.
