Photo problem

This is for a friend who is experiencing problems when she 'saves as' from the browser. The picture when opened with Windows Photo Gallery or Picture Manager with Vista renders the picture like this:

However if she opens the same file with photoshop and re-saves it, it's fine, like this:

The computer she's running is a

Samsung, Intel 2 Duo CPU T5450 1.67 GHz.
2GB RAM and 32 bit OS.

And Mozilla Firefox the latest version.

The display adapter is NVIDIA GeForce 8400M GS.

Any help greatly appreciated.

It's probably of no consequence, but does she save it in Photoshop as the same graphic type (file extension)?
