Hello people. For the life of me I cannot figure this out. I know the machine I have upgraded to vista 64 bit ultimate is not the ideal machine to do this on.. But I am going to eventually upgrade the hardware thats slacking.

I cannot get my pc to work with 8 gigs of ram. Tried 6, no luck.. only 4 gigs will allow the system to boot. I get an alert saying the system memory has increased when I have all 8 gigs snapped in, press the required key to continue then the screen goes blank, tried waiting a little to see if OS would load, but no dice

according to www.crucial.com, my pc will support 8 gigs. I have gone to dells support page and there are no vista drivers available.

Any help would be appreciated. Thank you

sometimes I forget the most simple approach to hardware troubleshooting! Gonna try in a few minutes and let you know. Thanks for reminding me of the first step I should have taken!

ok so I check to make sure all ram modules are working correctly. They are. So I when I try to boot with 6 gigs, system loads, informs of memory change, I hit f1 then it keeps on rebooting over and over. 8 gigs, still just freezes. I tried starting in safe mode (just because) and it stops at crccheck.sys and doenst move. Not sure what else I can do. I can get into bios fine with all 8 sticks snapped in, and BIOS recognizes it... so Im kinda stumped here!

Would a bios upgrade solve this? Even if it would, I entered my dell service tag into support page and cant get the updated bios to run on my pc... like I stated earlier... I have no driver options for vista on my machine.

(and yes I did order the ram from crucial)

well at least you now now
but it is either dells fault for giving out the wrong info or crucials fault for puting up the wrong info

might be worth looking at another mother board if you want to run all 8 gig
