PC DVD Not Playing

I recently bought a Toshiba laptop, with a DVD-RW drive. I purchased a PC DVD game and it is not being recognized at all. I put it in the drive and it doesn't even spin. I exchanged it, and still have the problem. Other DVDs (movies) and music CD's work just fine. My graphics card is an ATI Radeon 3100, and (didn't notice this when I bought the game) the game requires an ATI/Radeon 8500/NVidia GeForce3. The game also states it needs a DVD-ROM, and mine is a DVD-RAM according to device manager. Any solutions to why the game is not playing? Thanks.

I thought i would post this for some help
if you have a game that is not compatible with your computer check and see if it is on steam or a program made by Microsoft called games for windows live if its on there either sell or return your game then by it on one opf those programs and your computer should run better than how it was on the disk or it should be able to run period!:D

Thanks for the help.
