Password issues

I boot up my vaio laptop. The user screen asks for password, I put correct password in it throws me out. I start in safe mode and restore to earlier date it then lets me in. Happened about 3 times over 2 months. Creates 2nd user account so I could get in if it locked me out. Oopps what a mistake. Start up now asks for password on main account put correct password in throws me out, put 2nd user password in throws me out. Tried to start in safe mode still asks for password cannot gain access to anything now. Help complete novice on these issues. Want to try and save all files and pictures then reinstall Vista.

Back up your stuff using Ubuntu. Put everything on an external hard drive
Then you are free to reinstall
Use Ubuntu Live CD to Backup Files from Your Dead Windows Computer

In the future to prevent this sort of problem
Back up the entire hard drive once a month or so, with Macrium,
Macrium Reflect FREE Edition - Information and download . Back up on an external hard drive
Also back up your stuff once a week with Karens Replicator

I use this to remove passwords it's free to delete passwords but you have to pay if you want to recover the password
