Palm 64 Bit Hot Sync Driver

Palm hasn't issued a 64 bit driver for HotSync. I can't sychronize my palm 750P with Microsoft Outlook.

Has anyone found a work-around?

Thanks,

Vista uses Windows Mobile Device Center, instead of Active Sync to sync mobile phones. Can your phone use it instead? I have a Treo 700wx with Windows Mobile 6 and It syncs just fine with WMDC. I know you said "HotSync" but...

You can check it out here: Windows Mobile Device Center 6.1 (WMDC) | Download | Windows Vista

Also check Palm's forums for a solution if this doesn't help, really good info there.

Hope this hepls.

Thanks for the links. I did find a post saying that the Palm Hotsync works via bluetooth, but the USB hotsync cable is not supported at this time.

Yeah, I pretty much read the same thing.

Good luck

I had the same problem with my Treo 680 as I switched from a XP notebook to a Vista 64 bit workstation an . My solution: I installed VMWare Workstation and have now the notebook XP in a virtual machine on my 64 bit Vista PC. Hotsync and Palm Desktop work perfect in the virtual machine as they did on the hardware notebook. It is even not nessesary to buy VWMWare Workstation, as you can build the virtual machine with the 30 day trial version and run the VM afterward with the free VMWare Player.

Interesting solution. I just tried to do the same thing in a Windows Virtual PC machine but something about the USB virtualization doesn't let it work.

I'll try the VMWare route.

Just spoke with Palm Tech Support, and synchronization on a x64 bit system (namely, Vista x64) can ONLY be performed using Bluetooth. It will not work using the USB cable.

I'm not sure what Palm told you or what you understood but I have a Palm Treo 700WX with Windows Mobile 5.5 before being upgraded to 6.0 and I've been syncing it using Windows Mobile Device Center for quite some time using a USB cable without issue.

Not sure what's going on with your device but usb synching is possible on a Palm device under Winodws Vista x64.

I actually understood everything Palm told me. I inadvertantly left out of my post that I was referring to the Treo 680 which uses Palm OS. I had a Treo 750 and now have a Treo Pro, both of which worked fine syncing with my PC's.

We are talking only about Palm OS-based handhelds. No, there is no way to directly synch on a 64-bit OS using the USB cable or cradle.

HOWEVER...

As was pointed out above, a workaround is to set up a 32-bit copy of XP or Vista in a virtual machine using VMWare and synch by using the USB cable within that virtual machine.

A trick I discovered was to set the Hotsynch Manager on the 64-bit OS to Network (TCP/IP) and set the Hotsynch manager in the virtual machine to USB and Network. This way the virtual machine carries out the USB communication and forwards over the virtual network to the Hotsynch Manager on the 64-bit host which allows you to configure your synch settings for Outlook etc. directly.

I do so love my T3.

I was recently looking for a commercial garnett device and came upon a company named Aceeca. They wrote a 64bit driver for there devices and offered it up to the palm community over at brighthand. So far it has worked on both Vista and 7 64bit systems with the palm TX, E, E2, m500, Treo 680 etc. How to instal and links are posted at Palm Support Community and at brighthand. Here is the info presented by WyreNut who installed it on his Vista Computer.64 Bit Drivers are HERE! (Thanks Aceeca corp.!) - Palm Support Community
