Solved Page File to Ram? is it possible?

im running a solid state drive and is there a way to push my page fileing to RAM? i dont want page fileing on my Solid State Drive

Hello NaturalPhenomen,

Sorry, but unless you have one of those extremly expensive RAM expansion cards to use the page file on, it can only used on a hard drive.

If you have a second internal HDD, you can have it on it instead of the SSD though.

okay i reformated my readyboost/readydrive into a hard drive and i put pagefileing on that would that be better or worse?

also is there a way to enable hibernate and put it the hibernate data on that readyboost drive

For performance, you would be much better off with the page file and hibernate file on the SSD than on a ReadyBoost USB key.

I do not think that it's possible to change the location of the hibernate (hiberfil.sys) file to another location though.

Oh, ok. Well since it uses the same type nand memory as the SSD I believe, I'm not sure if performance will be any better. I suppose it depends on the bandwith of the SSD compared to the turbo memory card.

anyway u can look into finding if i can change where hibernate saves the data? id love that because then my SSD is fully tweaked on using less writes

Sorry, but the hibernate file needs to be present on the same drive (and partition) as its related OS.

System will generally page to disk when physical memory is running low. Paging to disk, whether an SSD or a Physical HDD is still slower than having enough physical memory.. You are paging to RAM everytime you use an application that utilizes it.

Why don't you just reduce the page file to the 200MB minimum. Chances that the page file will be needed (if you have 3 or 4GB of RAM) are minimal. But even if you leave the page file, there will be extremely little write activity. If you use sleep in lieu of hibernation, you could get rid of the hibernation file and save a few GBs (at the tune of the size of your RAM).

if you have enough RAM, you can put hte pagefile and anything else you want on the RAM using a RAMDISK.

i dont reccommmend it though as your things will get deleted when you turnoff your computer. just an idea

You can move the pagefile anywhere you want however,

As already mentioned the ideal place for the PF is on the SSD w/the OS.

If the SSD is really small, and space is a issue, moving the PF may be a good idea. But TBH, youd be better off just making a smaller static PF if you must.

If writes are a the concern, I wouldnt worry about it to much.
In normal day to day OS operation, the writes are actually insignifcant and will not hurt the drive.
