This is an open letter to try to help others who might come across this very strange issue. I use OPEN OFFICE. After I wrote a document I attempted to send it as an email. As you may know OO and other programs are tied in to OE6 which is a part of IE6. When I selected SEND TO EMAIL, I got an error, "CANNOT FIND A WORKING EMAIL PROGRAM". My Gmail and YAHOO were operational. Only OE6 was not. The icon was on the desk top but was not to be found in any list. Even using the desktop SEARCH box turned up nothing. I tried a SYSTEM RESTORE. FAILED, "INCOMPLETE". I ended up reloading the OS, XP PRO, and then started from scratch. At some point OS disappeared again, this time the icon went with it. I tried SR again and went back to a previous "SYSTEM CHECK POINT". This time it worked so at least the OS was there. This time OE remained stable, and still is stable. I also installed COMODO TIME MACHINE, a SR alternative, which I stopped using because the program caused issues in the past on other towers. These towers seem to like it so as for now I have 4 stable towers. None of the other programs can send emails directly from the program without a working OE. My experience says that the only way out is to reload the OS. Back up important data first. A real mystery to me. And a long drawn out solution. It would be nice if scan programs could be used with any email program of choice. Of course that makes too much sense for the engineers Thier mission in life is to make life miserable for the user. Hope this helps. It would also be nice if OE6 and/or IE6 with OE6 could be reinstalled on a tower that already uses IE6 so the new program simply overwrites the old. That to would make too much sense.

I did not realize I was. If there is an XP section please have someone move it there. I was only trying to help others who might have come across this issue. I appologize.

Not a problem. There is no XP section - this forum is just for Vista. For XP, try: Windows XP Category.

Thanks anyway. Try reposting in the above forum where someone who uses XP and OE may appreciate the explanation.

Good luck!
