Outlook 2007?

If I set up MS Outlook 2007-Follow the setup wizard and select my username and enter in my case with the gmail email address and type in the password twice as requested.

What does happen at this stage? Does the mails from the inbox, outbox and deleted items of my gmail get downloaded to my Hard Drive of computer running Outlook 2007?

Does that mean I will have two copies of every thing one in the GMails Browser and another in my Hard Drive?

I would very much appreciate your expert opinion on this matter.
Thanking you
Snow

Hello snowshine,

This would depend on your settings. Tools/Accounts/click on the account. Click on Change and then More Settings... Advanced tab and check or uncheck the 'Leave a copy of messages on the server' box.

I don't use gmail, but this is how it works for my mail server.

Hope this helps.

Hello garysgold,
Yes you are correct. I understand that bit. That is to leave a copy with the mail server.
If I may rephrase the question:
If I get my Outlook 2007 set up with my mail server who is also ISP.

Now does all the letters I receive and send will be saved on my HD as well as the mail server [Presume I have followed as you mentioned Tools/Accounts/click on account....]

Why do ask this because when I tried to get the Gmail on my Outlook 2007, I noticed as if years of mails are being downloaded.. I may be not correct here. This is what I want to varify?

Any thoughts.....

With Kind Regards
Snow

I could see where that would be a problem. I have never done this before as I have always had whatever email client I was using at the time download and remove all emails from the server. The new account in Outlook is probably going to try to download everything. If you have years of email saved on the gmail server, then this would be the problem. Only thing I can suggest is to go to the gmail via the web and clean out all the old emails.

Maybe someone else that uses gmail can suggest something better.

I'm not quite sure what you are asking so my answer may be way off target.

However -

Outlook 2007 - Tools - Account settings - chosen accounts listed with only one set as the default account. This default is interchangeable if you so wish thus allowing whichever account to send / receive.

Don't forget to check Outlook 2007 - Tools - Options.[particularly the "Mail Setup" tab.]

Also have a look at Help - Microsoft Office Outlook Help.
