Organizing pictures?

How can I organize my pictures in the place I put them, and them stay there?
For instance..I have a folder of pictures that I want to put in my own order..
when I click and drag them in the order that I want, they stay there...
but when I close out of the folder and go back to it..they are all back in alphabetical order by the captions.

so how can I make them stay in the order I put them in myself?
is there any way or is it always in alphabetical order?

thanks to anyone who can answer!!

by what criteria do you want to organize pictures? date? size? type? clicking the top of any column will sort your files by that criteria. so if you click "date", your files will be sorted chronologically, and if you click it again, they will be sorted reverse-chronological. and, if you right-click the top of any column, you will be presented with more criteria to create customized columns of your choice.
you may also want to try a stand-alone program like picasa or photology.

hello..thanks for the reply.
but the way I'm wanting to organize them is exactly where I click and drag them.
Say I have photo A, B and C....and I click photo C to go in front of A...and want it to stay that way...so I'd have C A B.
lol but when I go back to it..it goes back to ABC.
I really hope I'm making since.

I just want them to stay in the order I put them in without refreshing back to alphabetical order everyone I close out of the folder and go back in.

you will have to determine what detail you want to sort your pictures by. as a last resort, rename them starting with descending numbers and/or letters. 1a,1b or 1aa, 1bb, etc. you can also find batch renaming programs.

Renaming them in a number order would work; however, if you number them with different amounts of numbers, it will sequence differently.

So if you number them 1, 2,3, etc. 10.

They will come up as 1, 10, 2, 3, etc. You have to have the same number of digits on all of them.

001, 002, 003,004, etc. 010 will keep them in number order.

Of course, if you have ones that go up into the thousands, the filenames must still have the same number of digits.

Why yes, I have done this.
