operating system not found

Ok I was going to try this on a HP computer I am *attempting* to fix BUT, I cannot load windows ( would I be able to replacce the file from another computer by using an ext hd case?), and I have tried getting the computer to boot from cd (hp recovery manager, system repair disk, AND a vista iso I burned yesterday). the computer says operating system not installed.

I have ran a bios hd scan and it passed, I also put it into a working computer and ran a chkdisk, a western digital lifeguard scan and all passed, yet I still get operating system not found
I even tried using a friends 7 disk on the machine. I'm beginning to think that the cd drive is kaput(I have tried the disks in 2 other computers and they worked), and thought about swapping cd drive from another computer but different connections... GRRR. Vista is a thorn in my side. I would GREATLY appreciate ANY help in this matter!!

Re: USB Bootable Vista Installation Flash Thumb Drive

I am trying to do an install of a HP DV9925NR with a cd drive that's not working so am trying this option as well as a different option from this forum. When I try this with the HDD that came with it, It gives me OS not found, I have a spare HDD from another HP vista laptop I fixed recently so I put that in and it gives me BOOTMGR missing.. I am at a loss as to what in the name of 7 h@lls is going on.

I do not have an option in the bios for legacy USB, as well as there is no usb FDD option the options I have are:
1. USB Diskette on key 2. USB Hard Drive 3. USB Floppy.
