Open Highmat files with vista

I have a large number of digital photos in HIGHMAT (.hmt) file format. I can't get them to open, now that I've moved to Vista. (WMP message is "can't open this type of file") I tried downloading the XP Highmat update, but it wouldn't install. I've looked on the net, but haven't yet found a solution. I have to find one, as these photos are business-related.

Secondly, if and when I ever get them open, I'd like to change them to .jpeg. How could Ido that.

Your help would be much appreciation. Don.

You have a 64bit machine capable of running virtual machine? If so you can run xp virtually and edit them that way.

let me know if you dont understand.

I have those senior moments myself. to bad about the 32bit. there might be something you can still do. when installing older apps vista has the ability to install in compatability mode. Here is how you do it

If the app is currently installed un-install it. then when you go to re-install it right click the file (setup, or install, or whatever) you use to launch the installer. go to properties and click compatibilty tab. set the tab to xp sp2 and save it. then try to install it

Ken: I followed your suggestion using Microsoft .hmt application (cd wizard)--but it still wouldn't open. However the problem was solved by downloading a viewer, as suggested by lemur. The viewer was called xnviewer and it worked fine. However, my avg pro quantined a virus right after I installed it and I'm quite positive I picked it up in the download. It has something to do with alg.exe, whatever that is. It's gone. Thanks for all the help. Much appreciated. Don.
