Only one restore point left!

Hi,

I have just checked my restore point and found I got only one:
11/07/2013 Install: Windows Update
The restore point I set
07/07/2013 Manual: AfterSet3GBMaxRestoreSpace
disappeared!
Why? Is that because I set Maximum Shadow Copy Storage space: 3 GB?

It is a possibility, Once the shadow storage settings have been applied, older restore points and shadow copies will be deleted until the space used meets your boundaries (3GB).

Typically a system restore point takes about 1-1.5GB so yes that would be average.

Try creating another manual system restore point and tell me if the oldest disappears?

Thank you Shadowjk,

I have just created another manual system restore point as you suggested, and there are two restore points now:
Manual: CheckIfOldPointDisappear
Install: Windows Update
The first manual restore point still disappeared.

I have also check the restore space, just after the Windows Update:
Used Shadow Copy Storage space: 1.222 GB
Allocated Shadow Copy Storage space: 1.465 GB
Maximum Shadow Copy Storage space: 3 GB

After I created another manual restore point:
Used Shadow Copy Storage space: 1.943 GB
Allocated Shadow Copy Storage space:2.22 GB
Maximum Shadow Copy Storage space: 3 GB

Do you think I should increase the Maximum Shadow Copy Storage space, perhaps to 5 GB?

You can also set it as a percentage of disk space. For example /MaxSize=5%
3 GB is really tiny for restore points. Usually 5 or 6% is a good rule of thumb.
The default 15% may be a bit steep esp. if you regularly create backup images.

    Hard Drives
750 GB SATA 3G 2 SIIG Superspeed docks w/WD Caviar Black Sata II or III
43 x 0.15 (15%) = 6.45GB

This may equate to roughly 4 or 5 system restore points

Please note that you must deduct 6.45GB from your total free space :)

MilesAhead,

Thank you for your suggestion.
I got only 43 GB for my system, 43 x 5% = 2.15 GB :)

That's what the system specs button is for. So we don't have to be psychic. :)
43GB is pretty small. XP ran fine on my 20GB drive. But Vista will use up most of what you have just for the OS.
