One click or two?

Hi all,

I am not sure where this should be posted so before I start I apologise if it has to be moved :o

As the title suggests its about the mouse, I have always had my mouse setup so that I left double-click to get to anything, but although mice have a very long lifespan, and this is mainly why I am posting this (before I get my G9 mouse) I wondered what you all would recommend to prolong the mouse life even more, do any of you use just one click or are you all double-clickers like myself? what would you recommend single or double?

I just don't want to knacker the mouse out too quickly, bearing in mind that it gets used alot in games too and as its recommended for Crysis etc......I am going to be hammering that left mouse button to death :)

I know I can use my Xbox 360 controller for windows and have been, but as this piece of kit is suggested for Crysis and other games I am going to be using it instead.

Gotcha, thanks.........I can never follow abbreviations, mainly because I never use them myself lol

As a sidenote and don't know if its true but that G9 mouse according to Logitech has 8 Million clicks, I wonder how they worked that out? lol

I have mine set up for single clicking as that is what I prefer, but it all depends on your individual preference and what you feel comfortable with. There is no 'right' or 'wrong' setting here.
As for maximising the mouse's lifespan, I suggest a plentiful supply of good quality cheese - cheddar is best. Seriously, though, make sure that the roller ball and rollers are kept clean and free of fluff (if appropriate) or that the lens assembly is clean (if optical). Keep your mousemat in good condition and replace it if you are getting consistent problems with mouse operation. If a wireless design, make sure that your batteries have plenty of power in them and always remove them if you are not going to use the mouse for an extended period (such as when you go on holiday). This also applies to wireless keyboards as well. Most mouse buttons have a typical MTBF (mean time before failure) of several million operations, so you would have to keep constantly pressing the button once a second, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week without stopping for between 3-6 months before you approach anywhere near this amount. I therefore don't think that you have anything to worry about on that score.

Here is a link to 'Wikipedia' (see also the related links on that page) which explains 'MTBF': http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MTBF

Thanks Dwarf,

I was just trying to gauge peoples choices, and although I did try single clicks, I still found myself duble-clicking, and in the end it was like 3 clicks before I stopped lol

I am not exactly sure how the G9 works in that, ok its a laser jobby, and has a cord I think, but the underneath bit has me a touch puzzled as it mentioned on the Logitech site I think something about feet and you can get replacements when they have worn out, if thats the case I doubt I can get any as I can't buy online and the chap I go to although he is getting the mouse from his supllier, I am not sure if they would have the feet, to be honest I don't know what they mean by feet, ok I know what feet are, but in the context of using the mouse I have no idea.

I know I am daft so please excuse me :o

As for feeding it with cheese, it would starve to death as I'd eat it all given the chance lol

Hello J & H....:)

If you could get used to a single click; you'll never go back. I'm so used to a single click that whenever I reinstall I think that the mouse has quit working or the install has gone wrong....

Later ;) Ted

Hi Ted :D

I'd love to get used to it, maybe I should change my current settings to get in some practice before the new mouse arrives, have'nt got long, might be here tomorrow lol

Having got so used to double it won't be easy, and if I had to do a reinstall I would no doubt think the same as you lol

Can't help but think that this should have been standard in the first place, as what does double-clicking achieve? to me it seems a waste, but then again I guess there must be reasons for it

But I'm willing to try again :)

I use single and so does my husband in fact he's no good with double as he can never get the timing right :D I must say though that it is much easier just having to click once to start something ;)

Since having installed Rocket Dock each time I click on what I have there, it is one click and the program opens so I am half way there, if not completely, so Rocket Dock has done me a big favour :D

I find that happens to me too Joan, at times I can't get it right either and more often than not end up going clicking mad lol
