Hey Guys

New guy to the forums :D

ummmm let me tell you my story.

upgraded from XP Pro 32 bit to Vista Home Premium 64 bit.

Now every thing is sweet. just one thing. i cant seem to get my CMI9880 onboard audio to work.

ive tried every driver known to man. i get the error code 10 when i look at the details in device manager, in device manager its called "high definetion audio device".

ive tried installing the driver by CD no luck there because it doesnt bother checking the driver it just says "windows has install the best driver..." (yeah right) instantly.

also ive tried unistalling the "windows driver" and replacing it with a Realtek HD audio driver for vista well it installs a bubble pops up on the task bar and it says that the driver is installing then it fails on installion it gets to a point called "searching premade folders...." then like 5 seconds later it says "failed".

furthermore when i try to install CMI9880 driver it just says "Driver installion failed. please check hd audio device and reboot system" or "device does not exstist" WTF?

its really doing my nut in i would really like some help with this matter ive googled for like 48 hours straight and nothing.... everyone that says they have a solution says "click this link!" and guess what the link no longer works. Cmedia and others just seem to of closed thier doors on the matter.

So please help!!!!

Regards Sean

Note: if you need anymore info or ive missed something out please let me know i will get bk to you ASAP :D

Hello Nytrus, Welcome to the forum.

Try going to the motherboard manufacturers website and see if they have x64 drivers for your model

Try pointing the PC to the driver on the CD make sure you select the x64 folder with the right drivers for Vista

You could list your MB here, for more help

As an after thought try using Guru3D - Driver Sweeper to make sure that the old drivers are being removed properly

I hope this helps
