occasional drive activity

Every once and a while Theres so much drive activity my mouse lags to the extream. Like seconds before the cursor moves. And the drive lite is also busy. This will happen at least once per sitting, sometimes two. Anyone got any idea what might be causing this?

On my XP partition, 32 bit os btw, I never had that happen. So Im hopeing its a vista 64 bit thing. Or at least a vista thing.

Any help appreciated.

Hi, hogie3, and welcome to the forums.

Well, let me put it like this. If there is HD activity light, then that means the HD is being used. Now, *what* is causing it to be used, that depends on your system - there really are no absolutes when it comes to Vista programs / third party programs causing unexpected HD activity- there are some possibilities, but no definite.

The best thing for you do do is to start investigating what is running on your system - it could be spyware, Malware, a Trojan, a built in Vista service (like indexing), an automatic backup you set a while back and forgot, an automatic downloader (like a weather program)....

The list is simply too long, and we can't look at your system cause we're here and you're there.

Yeah. Understood. I havent reformated in well over 2 years too. Im over due. I was hopeing for a magic, out of the hat cure

Well, there is - monitor your apps and event viewer and task manager to see what is running....and what spikes....
