A while back I picked up Oblivion and couldn't get it to run. It would crash to the desktop after the intro movie when creating a new game. I tried every fix I could find (spent days on it) to no avail and just considered it to be a lost cause due to x64 incompatibility.
Fast forward....I also tried to get COD: World at War to run and was experiencing a similar CTD while loading. Again none of the suggested fixes helped. So as a last resort, I tried rolling back to Nvidia's 185.85 drivers (I was using the 190 series) and now both games work. I also noticed that the color saturation and vibrancy of my desktop is significantly richer in these drivers too. So it seems that the newer 190 series of drivers are less stable.
Hope this helps.
