hi soldier000,

have you tried updating your graphics drivers from nvidia.com?
If you have, have you tried playing your games in compatability mode? (heard it can fix the issue), also people have had luck running 1 stick of RAM in one channel to fix the issue!
hope this helps

Dave

I am also having problems with this now. I used to play WoW with no problems (stopped playing October 1st cause of money issues). This year I decided to play Runescape, but I been getting the nvlddmkm error message every so often. It is so random that it can do it multiple times a day or few times a week. I have updated to newest driver right now, but to no avail, the error still comes up.

Here are my specs:

right ive had a look at the specifications of your notebook and im right in assuming that your Graphics card is an 8200m series?
NVIDIA DRIVERS 258.96 WHQL this is the corrent driver for your device, after you install these drivers, i suggest you reboot your notebook and run sfc /scannow from a command window (press windows key + R and type command and hit return).

Your assumption is correct Dave, more accurately, it is a NVIDIA GeForce 8200M G Display Adapter. I have installed the latest driver and ran the command, is there a way to make it stay showed up so that I can see the message that the command shows?

I ran the command, there were corrupt files, however not all of them were able to be fixed. I looked in the cbs file, but I do not understand it, what am I looking for?

if any problems are found, the sfc command trys to fix them, if it can't then it can't, you dont need to worry about it personally, there are 2 things you can do from here then, 1. is you can restore until before the issue started, but sometimes people have system restore disabled so thats not always an option.

the second one is a complete uninstall of all display drivers and reboot, now you can let windows install the default drivers and try running driver sweeper > Guru3D - Driver Sweeper (Setup) download from Guru3D.com , after this, you can re-install the nvidia signed ones from nvidia.com that i provided the link for above.

Hi MrNeeds, I just wanted to let you know about your suggestions. I had uninstalled the driver, got the default display driver back up and running, used the Guru3D application and installed the updated driver. I did all this on July 28, 2010, today on July 30, 2010 my display driver went and stopped responding again.

Also, I know there is some command that would allow me to show you all specs that you would need to identify the problem, but I forgot what it was...lol (I believe it is either msconfig or msinfo32 and have to get some kind of document). If there is anything else you need me to do, just let me know.

Sorry for the late reply, been a bit busy and it's a bit difficult working from my iPad, I can only suggest a vista repair, im going to try and link you to our tutorial on how to do a repair from the vista install disc if you have one. >>>Vista Repair<<<

It is okay and thanks for the reply. However, I do not have a Vista Installation disc cause my computer was already preinstalled with Windows Vista. I can do a restoration on my computer where it starts my computer from the point it was purchased. This display problem never happened till this year (not sure what exactly started it). I could play a intensely memory consuming game like WoW without any problems (but this was during 2009 and the problem started after March 2010).

The repair is exactly the same as the vista repair, just a bit fancier, just shutdown the notebook, turn it on and hold the F11 key until it boots into the recovery stage, follow the onscreen instructions to repair your vista install, this should just replace any damaged files within windows with fresh ones (including drivers that may be faulty).
Fingers crossed :)

You have the 8200m, which is the series of very warm mobile gpus. Seen a pic of an 8800m that melted the casings of the lappy. What are your temperatures? Have you cleaned out the intake? I used a vaccuum and an air pump, to blow while sucking through the intake and exhaust.

I don't know is a repair will help much, but its worth the try.

Another thing could be your gpu memmery going, can try memtestg80 to test it.

I have run the memtestG80 utility and it came back with 0 errors, I still have to do the repair though to see if anything needs to be fixed. There are also times when the display error doesn't appear for weeks, while at other times it appears several times a day.

Good for no errors...

Hows your temps? and have you tested you system memory?
Memtest86.com - Memory Diagnostic is a boot disk to test it.

This driver crash can be a pain to find... and seem to happen to random people.

If I remember correctly, isn't there a memory test command that I can run? Also, what can I use to find the temps? The only one that I had used was reading in Celsius and I think the program was wrong cause it was reading the Celsius was in the 100+ degrees.

also, there is a windows memory test but it is performed during the post screen, just type mdsched into the start menu bar and hit return, it will ask for permission and then ask you if you want to restart your system now or later, when you restart it will start windows in the memory diagnostic tool (similar to chkdsk).

I got CPUID installed and it is much better than my previous installation of a temp checker. I can actually understand this one :).

I decided to downgrade back to factory defaults and no problems as of yet with the NVidia Driver. Now my problem is the fact that my computer overheats whenever I play a certain game (no one hate cause of the fact I still play this game): RuneScape. I never had any problems playing World of Warcraft, just with RuneScape.

Thanks for the help everyone has given.

This error has been plaguing people for years, and Nvidia has not clearly addressed the issue AFAIK. I used to get it regularly when I owned an 8800 GTX. When the GTX died I replaced it with an 8800 Ultra and the problem went away. As far as I can tell from my personal experience, it's a hardware problem, and not driver- related. t-man

Yha, especially since the 8 series mobile cards have been know to melt systems.
