Nothing at all

I need help! I'm running Vista Home Premium (well, I was running it). I got a couple of graphic driver error and recovery messages, then my computer crashed. I did the f8 thing, but kept being asked for my Product Key Code. I bought the computer from a reputable big box office supply store, with Vista already installed (no disc) and a sticker with a Product Code on the bottom of the computer. Every time I tried to use that number I got a message that it was not valid. I got a message that I was now on a 30 day trial version, with a message on the bottom right of the screen that said it was not a valid build. After many hours on the phone with HP and Microsoft, I kept getting the same answer...buy recovery discs (wasn't computer savy enough to have made a set early on...won't make that mistake again!). Anyway, it seemed that I should not have been getting an invalid product code message when I tried to input it, so I kept researching it. But then my 30 day trial ran out and now I can turn the computer on but can't get it to boot. Black screen, dvd whirring a little, nothing else. F8 doesn't bring anything up. Nothing. Any explanation of what this is all about, and what, if anything can be done to fix it, would be really helpful. If it can't be fixed, is there anyway to retrieve my documents and pictures when I buy a new (gulp) computer? Thanks so much in advance for any help offered.

Hi,

Sorry, but from all that information, it looks like the Windows system you have is not the correct OEM version for that PC.

I would suggest that the best way forward is either to buy the recovery disks or a new copy of Windows (Vista or Seven) which ever is the best fit for you & the computer.

HP would be best to get compatibility advice on that.
