Normalising volume on songs

In my music library there is nearly 9000 songs but they have been ripped with different programs and bought off different sites hence having different volume levels.

Are there any programs that will normalise the volume of my songs? Preferably freeware, but I could buy the program if it will work.

Hi Tom,

I don't know if this works "on the fly" or if you'll need to run all your files through it to get them to the same level (I suspect the latter). Normalize, Make sure you read the README file as there are special requirements for installing in Windows. It does seem a bit involved and not quite user-friendly (command level vs. GUI) - but it (and I think the other things that might be needed though I didn't check them all out) is FREE, so maybe it's worth a look.

I have a licensed copy of Realplayer SP plus and I read somewhere that this has a volume normailser but unfortunately I cannot find how to do so, you don't happen to know how to do this do you?

Sorry, I know squat about that. I'd try their tech support or forums if they have any. I don't really use the PC for music or video (well, sometimes but rarely). Certainly not enough to ever pay for related software.

I hope you find it does and don't need anything else - but if you do you now have some options.

I'm curious. Did you determine if your program normalizes or not? What have you decided to do or is that still TBD? If your program doesn't do it, I think I'd spend the $24 if I had that many files that need attention (I think I may have 12 music files on my PC - LOL!).
