No Sound

I upgraded to Vista two days ago and then had the "no audio device found" problem. After trying several different things, I located a SigmaTel HD Audio Codec through Dell (I have a Dell Diminsion E510 w/Zylux speakers). Now, the "no audio device found" seems to be fixed--in that the little red box with the x is gone, and the volume indicator shows the volume is going up and down when I'm testing. Of course, I still can't hear any sound. I'm at a loss. I've unplugged the speakers several time (they make a nice humming when I plug them back in so I don't think they're the problem). I've rebooted so many times I've lost count. Any suggestions?

Can you right click on the speaker icon, choose playback devices, then do you see a tick next an audio device:

Go to its properties and make sure both boxes are ticked in the advanced under exclusive mode.

There's a tick next to the audio device, and both boxes are ticked under advanced. I'm new here...I have no idea what a PM is :)

PM is private message. Does device manager show any exclamation points? Even so, in device manager, what is your sound device. We can try uninstalling the driver, rebooting, then reinstalling a new sound driver.

Device manager doesn't show any exclamation points. Under "Sound, video and game controllers," it lists "SigmaTel High Definition Audio CODEC." My entire system came from Dell when I originally purchased it. On the back of the subwoofer, it says, "Zylux Multi Media Computer Speaker System." Originally, I thought maybe I had the wrong driver, but I think SigmaTel makes Zylux.

I tried uninstalling the driver. When I rebooted, Vista automatically reinstalled the SigmaTel driver. Do you think I should completely remove the software when I uninstall the driver? Do you think I should use a different driver? During my "no audio device found" problem, I tried several different ones that didn't work.

I've heard of this problem before but it seems as if the Sigma driver just doesn't work. To test, can you try out a USB sound card such as the X-FI Creative go! USB?

I think you may have the wrong driver installed. Please re-check this and then show me what it says on your sound window.
