Hello Bailee,

Welcome to the Forum.

Sounds like you didn't push the jack all the way into the socket, or the socket is broken. If your machine is brand new there is possibility the socket has tight fit. Try to plug the jack few times so the connectors inside will settle down.

Hopefully it will help...:)

Thank you for your reply Martee.
I have indeed tried pushing it in all the way, and it is very reluctent to go in. and when i get the plug into the socket and try to pull it out, it merely takes alot of effort..
Is it a possiblity that water has gotten in there and corrupted the output?
And im only a teenage girl, and i don't really want to mention this to dad haha.
He will shoot me, but i noticed there were alot of probelms vista were having with audio. afew weeks ago i had a probelm the exact opposite to this, my headphones wouldwork, but my speakers wouldnt.
i was browsing through the internet trying to have a DIY porblem fix and i got it. so i thought this would be an easy fix.. guessing its not?

Hello Bailee,

I'm really sorry, I've got no idea how to help you in this. :( The headphones should work when you plug them in. The speakers should be mute at the same time. My only suggestion is to send your lappy to repair.

Your dad will understand this, I'm sure. It's not your fault, right. :)

Cheers...:D

Sounds to me like the socket's broken. Definitely some wiring screw up back in there... when the plug's pushed in it's making the 'switch' for the speakers.

Thank you both for your replies.
i was really hoping not to have it sent away, but hey. i tried..
i think i did spill water on it an one point, but i was very sure that it got nowhere near the computer.

Thank you for your help, and i shall try to have it sent off.
