Hello I have some problems with my Realtek AC97 Sound Driver:

I opened my PC and i saw there is a red cross on the sound icon in the taskbar
(taskbar.jpg) Then i opened Sound Control Panel and there was: No audio devices installed (soundcpanel2.jpg) (soundcpanel2.jpg). Then i opened Device manager there was no any device about audio here (devicemanager.jpg).
I installed Driver Agent And scanned for drivers. The Realtek AC97 driver was in the Disconnected Drivers List (driveragent.jpg).

What can i do?

Thanks,
Kasya

Hello Kasya,

Goto Start, Control Panel, Programs, Uninstall a Program, if you have anything realtek uninstall it. Do a reboot if requested if on restart the drivers remain uninstalled or if you have nothing to uninstall read further

Go here;
Realtek

Download and install the vista driver

I hope this helps

Hello,
Thank you for your help but nothing changed. I removed from Programs And Features Realtek AC97. It wrote drivers uninstalled. I rebooted my pc. Then started installing Vista driver. It started telling me the driver isn't certified. I clicked install anyway. Then it said Driver installed and i rebooted my pc. But after reboot nothing changed. The red cross on audio icon in taskbar still exist. No Driver in Device Manager.

What can i do?

Another possbility then is that if you were upgrading the driver...the first time you run the new driver install it actually un-installs the current driver then it when you install again that it installs fully.

Here is the problem not only is the MB very old, but you are unlikely to get working vista drivers for your particular chip

Try here;
http://www.giga-byte.com/Support/Motherboard/Driver_DownloadFile.as px?FileType=Driver&FileID=817

These drivers are for your chip are also unsigned and may I believe install to Vista with a few warnings if you are lucky they may also work

Should they not install properly they will almost certainly extract to a temporary folder either on C:\ or under your user I don't know what it would be called so you will have to look for itand you should then be able to install them by clicking on the sound device in the device manager and pointing it to the driver in the temporary folder
