No sound through headphones

Hi all,

There seems to be a hardware issue with the jack on my dad's Toshiba Satellite L300, running 7 32bit.

Sound works as normal with no headphones. The problem occurs when headphones are inserted, as sound continues to come through the speakers, with no sound coming through the 'phones.

I'm guessing that the jack is damaged, but hoping that others on here may have experience of this problem.

It's an Atapi jack.

EDIT: And more than one set of 'phones have been used, all of which work with other devices.

Sounds like the jack but may be a driver
Go to search by the start button
Type device manager
Look for any yellow warning markers, update if they are found
If none are found update all audio drivers.

I've done the above and the driver is up to date.

So the hardware's damaged then?

Try other headphones, first.

A few different sets have been tried, all with the same result.

You must realize that the most anyone here can do is make an educated guess, we cannot see or touch the computer. That being said seems like hardware.
