My Computer

all it says after is the device cannot start CODE 10

checked the update again for the driver
its said to be the latest one :0)

While it does work in some cases, the drivers provided by Windows Update or by the Update Driver function are not always what you want. You best solution would be to go to the sound card (motherboard, if using on-board sound) manufacturer's website, and download the Vista drivers from there.

I checked the bios and could find no option for the audio setting (onboard sound). Any other thoughts?

If you sound is onboard, the there will be a setting for it in the BIOS, as Clevo told you. Have a look in perhaps "Integrated Peripherals".
