I think you'll find that the new search bar is what was the Run command. When you click the start orb it's at the bottom of the list and says Start Search.

Right click on the taskbar --> properties --> Start menu tab --> customize button --> tick "Run command" box (about 3/4's down the list) --> click "OK" button

I'm amazed at how many of those tips for Vista, also work in Windows XP.
Like the Windows Key and R key to open the run box.
Vista is more like XP than many would like us to believe.
Setting all screens and menu's to "Classic" seems to help performance by making things run simpler.
And makes just running Vista easier for us old timers.

How can I use commands such as "telnet" in Vista?
I do not know much about its use but I it has been suggested that I use it to check a connection to my incoming email server. (telnet mail.xxxx.co.uk 110)
I also had trouble finding Run, eventually found it as stated above.
If I now use "Run" then a telnet command a black screen flashes onto and off the screen so i get no out put.

Run the telnet session from the command prompt instead, then. If you run just telnet, and you get an error, the telnet session closes, so it goes off the screen. Run it from a command prompt (cmd.exe) though, and the output will be shown.
