Hi,

As a quick test:

  • Press the Windows key and R to open the Run dialogue.
  • Type "devmgmt.msc" and press enter.
  • Under Network Adapters, right click on your ethernet card (it should not say wireless or bluetooth but may say something like Gigabit - tell us all the names if you are unsure) and click Properties.
  • Under the Power Management tab, uncheck the box "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power", and press OK.
Do you still have problems? This is NOT a permanent solution, just a quick test. Try to update the drivers for this device, from Device Manager, and then your manufactuers website.

Hey Richard, Thanks for the fast reply!

Erm as for that iv taken that off as i remember having the same sort of issue a while back, This is not a problem as such i really did just want to see why it did it and if there was a permanent fix, Seem's strange as to why it does this?

Thanks again Rich for your time!

Hi,

Did that work or not? It is now a case of trying different drivers. Try to update drivers manually from Device Manager, then your computer manufacturers website, and you could also try the Intel website if your ethernet card is made by Intel and you know what model it is: http://downloadcenter.intel.com/SearchResult.aspx?lang=eng&ProductFamily=Ethernet+Components&ProductLine=Ethernet+Controllers&ProductProduct=Intel%C2%AE+8256x+Ethernet+Controllers&OSVersion=Windows+Vista*+Ultimate%2c+32-bit+version#FRM

If you don't know what ethernet card you have, use the Intel Online Detect Tool to automatically update your drivers: Intel® Driver Update Utility for wired networking - Check for the latest driver (It is very good!)

Here is a device checking tool from Intel: http://www.intel.com/support/idyp.htm

If you tell me your exact model of ethernet card, I will look for suitable drivers for you. Can you please fill in youir system specs?

Thanks,

Richard
