no cd rom drive on my vista

I have no cd/rom drive for some reason on my computer anymore. The computer isn't recognizing it on my hard drive. I have windows vista home premium and other than doing a system recovery. this would require way too much backing up...help me!

You could try a system restore to a point before the problem started.

try booting into safe mode - access the Device manager, if the cd drive shows up - uninstall it and reboot, that should allow the system to reinstall the drive.
