no audio output device installed

hello i'm new, and no doubt you've probably heard this question many many times before!

the issue is i have had no audio since september, and so far i have tried the following:

1) I went to device manager and tried to locate 'sounds, game controllers etc' but it's not there.

2) i have visited recovery manager and tried to update conexant driver on the list, but an error came up saying no media device found.

3) i have downloaded the driver from realtek (that takes ages to download), that failed also.

close but no cigar they say, someone please help?

What is in sound in the control panel?
If there is an entry try to right click and show disabled and disconnected devices.

Try going to start type device manager, View,show hidden devices. see if any sound shows up.
Looking at posts on other forums it may have been the Internet Explorer 8 update that caused this.

go to start type services.msc look for Windows Audio highlight it and check it is set to auto start. Do the same for Windows Audio Endpoint.

in device manager i couldn't find anything audio related, and in services.msc i restarted windows audio and windows audio endpoint, they were on automatic when i found them, also i downloaded chipset driver and audio driver and restarted my pc, still no sound!

but, i have downloaded a couple of drivers from Windows Catalog to try and install, what do i do after i've downloaded them? i've ran 'check for updates' but the drivers haven't came up!

In device manager right click on the device, go to it's properties,update driver.
It will ask if you would like it to go on line to update or browse your computer,
pick browse and go to the driver you downloaded.
Reboot after it has finished.

OK, Lets see if your computer can make any sound.
Go to desktop right click,personalize, then go sounds.
Set it to play sound on start up.
Restart your computer and see if it makes any noise at all.

Go to Control Panel (classic view),performance information and tools,
advanced tools,system information,components,sound device.

what driver do i right click on in device manager?

after going to personalize > sounds the 'play sound when windows starts up' has been ticked, and when i highlight any sound the test button is dull and i can't press it.

also, after clicking sound device nothing comes up

That's not good. Do you have a repair disc or the install disc for your system? as I think you may need to do a repair install.
A repair install will not harm your personal files, So that is the one I would try first.

i have the same problem: no audio blablabla. i tried to go to device manager>>sound, video, and game controller>>realtek high definition audio, but there's a yellow triangle mark on it. i looked at properties and it says "This device cannot start. (Code 10)". what shud i do? help meeeh T,T

Hardware devices not detected or not working

Hi, I am too facing the same problem. Did everything you wrote but nothing has happened. Also ran the Diagnostic test and it showed "audio test is ok". does this mean that the hardware has no problem?
