Well i am not quite a newbie, but i am to vista and i am having a most annoying problem.
I was renaming some freshly ripped music files and had been most of the afternoon and everything was fine,
until....
with no warning and no apparent reason, the computer rebooted, which was not a huge suprise, could not find anything wrong or abnormal, and it is not overcloked or anything like that, i have several for my work and this being a new system, and a new OS for me, ive been going thru all the normal debugging stuff that we all have come to know and love with the windows family.
and dealing with a new mobo as well, this being a Biostar TA780gm2+-hp, amd 4600 64x2 with 4 gig of ram. and 2.5tb of stacked drives in it. sweet machine- but it dont like xp, needs direct x 10 to run at speed, and im learning to love/hate vista. not overheated, built it well and ive been doing this a while.
So i went back to what i was doing, only to find out that my trusty MP3 tag program that i have been using for years kept showing me READ ONLY, when i tried to make changes. so off to properties i go, uncheck the box, tried again, same thing.
repeat ad nauseum.etc, gave up and did a bit of resding about defender and more reading in ownership and file sharing.
Its been 3 hours now, and i still dont have any answers and have a few hundred files to go. seems something has locked all my music, video and karaoke drives into read only mode, and as usual, cant find a doggone thing in any ms help files directly addressing this problem. i may not be in the right thread as i am a newbie here too and havent yet had the chance to scour the site yet, so please accept my humble apologies for the lack of navigation here.
 helllppp!. (please)
