Anyone tried these yet, my systems has been very reliable but I'm always game for anything that might improve responsiveness, etc...

Asked and answered, KB941649 prevents my systems from booting. Had to toss in the install DVD and do a restore to get back in to my PC. Have to dig up a link and file a bug report with MS, might wanna' let these cook a little longer before you try 'em. That said, if this were XP I'd like be re-imaging right now, nice that Vista's recovery worked so seamlessly.

Exactly the same here... I also needed to restore via the install DVD.

I think the moral to the story is that is an update doens't show up via Windows Update and you aren't suffering a specific issue, you probably don't need a hotfix (which is MS typical stance on this actually). I broke my own rule of trying to fix something that wasn't really broken, I'm just glad recovery was so simple.

A little research through Event Viewer and Reliability Monitor shows that the update tried to install new chipset dirvers, but I'm running the latest from Intel's web site, that appear to be newer than those in the patch.

it won't let me view the article now, does anybody know what it fixes (in a nutshell)?

I'm asking because whenever I open wmp for the first time, it crashes immediately. I can reopen it and it works fine *shrug*

Does not seem to make a difference if I'm launching it with media or just opening it by itself.

My solution, since this problem is due to the update not being able to update msachi.sys while it is running, was to go into the BIOS and disable ACHI Native Mode, then reboot, let the update complete and then all is fine again.

No problem whatsoever. I installed all of the above updates that apply to Vista 64-bit Home Premium (including KB941649) and everything runs just as well as before.

Tried that, failed again, although I think my mobo is partially at fault as there are some other issues with this board as well.
