New RAM

Hey guys,

Kinda silly question and I'm pretty sure I already know the answer, but still wanted to check: I'm about to purchase a pair 512MB memory modules at ebay (corsair XMS platinum pc 3200) and have a pair of 512MB modules (twinmos pc3200) already installed in my pc. The Corsair modules however, have different latencies, so I was wondering whether that's going to give me any problems, or the fact that they are from different manufacturers... Or will it work fine?:) Here's the link to the ebay if you want to see for yourself: eBay.be: Ram Corsair TwinX XMS3200 2 x 512 MB DDR 400 Mhz LL 2.2 (object 140280795840 eindtijd 23-nov-08 21:21:00 CET)

Thanks in advance for replies;)

I belive that you will need to set the latencies manualy.
And need to set the latencies for the higher memory.

Exemple:
Corsair: 3-3-3-9
OCZ: 4-4-3-12

for them to work well you need to put the OCZ latencies, couse she would be overclocked if the latencies are lower than that.

I just added 4gb of DDR2800 Corsair. 2x2gb chips. Plus I already had 2 1gb Corsair chips already installed. I now total 6gbs.

My point is even though thay are all Corsair, the 1gig sticks are timed at 4, while the 2gig sticks are times at 5.

I could manually set their timeings but I dont have to because my motherboard clocks the 4s down to 5 automaticaly.

1st gen DDR ram can be a little tricky. Sometimes it will work...sometimes theres noway.

Good luck.

Ok, thanks all for the replies!

Bruce, that's a link to nvidia graphics drivers...:p But RAM is not cheap here in Europe, in fact no computer part is...:(

Now here's the next part: I've bought the corsair as showed in the link. Now what should I do? Install it in the mobo and see whether that does automatically adjusts the latency? If it doesn't, I would have to underclock the corsair manually in the BIOS, right?

Thanks again;)

Hi amplid, sorry about the mistake in posting the wrong link.

You are pretty much got it down how to configure them. Just don't forget install the pair in the same color slots.

Nice day.
