new pc won't download emails or updates

hi all,
i have a brand new HP Pavilion Slimline s3542.uk Desktop PC that seems to be working fine but I cannot download my emails into office outlook 2007 or get my NOD32 anti virus to update. My internet access is fine either wireless or hard wired directly to the router and my old XP PC works fine on the same connection. I have tried disabling the windows firewall and router firewall and also the anti virus, i have tried installing a different anti virus (avg) but all to no avail. Operating system is vista home premium 64 bit. Windows update is up to date.
Any help greatly appreciated.

Did you configure your mail account and add your smtp and pop servers.

Try running malwarebytes to see if you have a trojan.

email accounts are set up axactly as the old pc was (also running office 2007)
can i use malwarebytes? their site says it only supports vista 32bit

not that i am aware of. my other pc running xp works fine on the same connection.

does anyone have any ideas on this as it's driving me mad having a new pc sat in the spare room and having to use my old pc. i have run a virus scan with avg free and nod32 both of which find nothing. i have contacted hp via their website but as yet have had no reply. HELP!
