Ok I have a Dell Studio 1737 laptop, the oem (350GB)hard drive crashed. I bought a new WD Scorpio 750GB SAT drive, installed it and tryed to install Vista. WRONG!!
I looked like everything was going fine then I get this error code 0x80070017. The disk I used is the OEM Vista disk that came with the laptop, there are no scratches,no prints or smears on it.
Then I shutdown the the puter and restarted it with the disk in the drive and get a "BOOTMGR IS MISSING" press ctrl, alt & del to restart. Did and the same appeared. So now what?? I tried the "bootrec/rebuildbcd from the cmd prompt, but it didn't fing the bootmgr. HELP:confused:

You need to purchase a recovery disk from the manufacturer of your laptop. I believe that you just purchased your new HDD from a third party manufacturer. After purchasing a new recovery disk, do a system recovery.

Call Dell, they will send you an installation disk for a S&H charge. You can also use any Vista installation disk (e.g. from a friend) that is the same distro (e.g. Home Premium) and then apply the Vista product key that is on the bottom of your laptop.
