New Desktop Virtualization Zone

We are pleased to announce the release of the Microsoft Desktop Virtualization zone on Springboard Series on TechNet that provides dynamic information and structured resources to help you explore, test, pilot, and deploy the latest Windows OS in your environment.

With Microsoft Desktop Virtualization, we have broken the bonds between the OS, application, and data & user settings by providing you solutions in all of these areas, enabling you to deploy the best mix for your organization's needs.

This new zone offers technical guidance content in three key areas:

  • Operating System Virtualization :
  • VDI : Enables you to provide a personalized and centrally-managed Windows desktops hosted on servers to connected users.
  • Session Virtualization : Helps you to provide technologies that enable users to access Windows®-based programs or full Windows desktop that are installed on a Remote Desktop Session Host (RD Session Host) server
  • Med-V : Provides you with the ability to deploy and manage virtual Windows desktops without having to worry about application to OS compatibility.
  • Virtual PC : Helps you to maintain the compatibility of legacy and custom applications during migration to new operating systems
  • Application Virtualization
  • App-V : Helps you to make business applications available to end users on any authorized PC. It helps to eliminate application-to-application incompatibility, as applications are no longer installed on the local client machine.
  • Remote App : Enables you to provide programs through Terminal Services to appear as if they are running on the end user's local computer.
  • User State Virtualization
  • Folder Redirection : Helps you to provide end users with folders that are available from any computer on the network. End users work with documents on a server as if the documents were based on a local drive.
  • Offline Files : (also known as Client Side Caching) Helps you make network files available to end users when a network connection to the server is unavailable or slow.
  • Roaming Profiles : Enables you to provide users to log on to computers in a domain while preserving their user profile settings.
All of this plus videos, key resources, aggregated blogs, and related resources all in one easy to manage zone.
