new camera help

we have up to £200 to spend on a new digital camera , i want to point press a button and get a decent picture , i want the camera to do all the work for me i have no desire to learn how to use it but i do demand a good quality shot everytime

its mainly for our child and our impending child , but also i want a decent zoom function for scenery and such and wide angle (i dont want much do i )

does anyone out there own such a camera they can recommend to me please

ive been looking at the Ricoh R10 just so you know the kind of thing im after (all the reviews of the ricoh seem to mention too much "noise" in the pictures , i kinda know what that is but dont know if it'll be a problem for me)

A very hard question to answer because there are so many different manufacturers out there. One man's Nikon is another man's Canon, if you see what I mean.....

I personally use Fujifilm cameras. They are probably not the best in the world but they suit me, and I can find my way around the menus quite easily.

Any good shop should help you choose. Ask around any friends and see what they say, and ask to see the printed results.

my g/f has been looking at the nikon coolpix s230, good cam, 10mp, 3" lcd touch screen, nice looking cam and does all the work for you,

the Nikon looks good , im just not sure if i want a higher zoom , maybe looking for at least 5x , Im going off the Ricoh now , god i hate spending money its supposed to be fun :P

The main feature you should be looking for is a good lens. The 6, 8, 10 Megapixel do not mean a lot if there is no good lens. I would look for a Schneider or Zeiss made lens.
I myself have 3 cameras. The one with the lowest pixel rating makes the best pictures because it has a Schneider lens.

Could not agree more. But pixels are nice too so the combination is the winner.

now ive had a spanner thrown in the works..........a guy i work with has a canon 350D for sale with a 200mm zoom lens thrown in and a spare battery for 250 quid

im tempted but its one of those "proper" cameras , its not what i want really but i think its such a good deal i cant resist..............oh god

he's a proper photogropher type , he has a new camera , he did tell me all about it but when he started rambling on i went to my "happy place" , bored isnt the word

i know its a cracking deal , he even went on to tell me the lens cost that much alone , but i just think ill look a prize turnip turning up everywhere with a bloody huge camera i cant work properly so im giving it a miss

if anyone wants it its still up for sale and i can broker the deal for a small fee full details on lens etc available on request...soooooooo Sas its yours for 250 quid plus postage , we have friends in Oz were always sending stuff over its cheap as chips

Dear Mr Radish!

Whatever your comfort zone, go with it and you'll be surprised just how often you drag your new Camera out.

Those 'photogroper types' can be quite boring, especially in mixed company, and more so when when 'taking snaps' is their sole recreational interest !

As far as size is concerned, the Canon is not really that big, and it is very much a 'point and shoot' setup.....absolutely fool.......sorry, Turnip-proof!!

When I was using my conventional cameras [ Minolta 2000xi and Olympus OMG], I was forever fiddling around with so-called 'custom' settings, changing lenses, etc. trying hard to compose each shot, because of the 'film and develop' costs. Now with my 3 digital Cameras, all that rubbish goes by the board, and I leave the Cameras to sort automatically, all the required settings. I also have more control over the final shots that 'I want to keep' for further editing, and freely discard the unacceptable, because there are no costs involved in doing so. I'm taking more photos now than I ever did before, and have recently begun scanning some 2000 negatives to storage on my Laptop. Again, in the scanning I can now be much more selective when deciding which photos to keep. It's all good fun, and well worth it. And sharing is now a breeze! I'll pass on the offer thanks, but. Three's enough.....one for each hand, and one in mouth!!
