Hi Panais, I was thinking of the same thing the other day, but I put mine game rig to sleep when ever it is not in use. However, my laptop stays on all the time.

You have left yours on for at least a year and it seems ok; if not, it is too late. :D

Leaving it on all the time may not be good for the PSU, but you got a Seasonic, it may be okay. Another disadvantage is possibly more dust collecting for constant air flow. Also, fan bearings may ware out quicker. That is't.

It is really depends on how frequently you use the computer, I brought up not to leave anything on while not in use.

Happy new year!

Bruce

Without going to complex explanation: everything has lifetime...or expiration dates...including bulbs which produce light which light up your screen and other sites. If not using PC, why waste light resources? Have you tried replacing PC bulbs? Why not program it to take a nap when lid is closed?

Yes. That's why it is advisable to unplug when not in use for prolonged period. Also, battery can be damaged by overheated Notebooks, that's why it is also advisable to remove fully charged battery when plugged in for prolonged heat producing computing(like games and optical drive overuse).

But certainly, I cannot see why Notebooks should be left on when not in use. Conserve!!!

I never owned a desktop, I would not know. But our secs in the office not only turn off heavy duty desktops after office hours but protect them with dust covers. They must know.

When unplugging to go on battery power, it is advisable to unplug from power source first, then from PC. And then when plugging back on, plug on pc first, then plug on the power source. Dunno why. Just read it somewhere. Maybe Shawn knows.

Addendum: When notebook is shut down, it does not matter how you unplug.

Ok. I usually just take out the changer from my laptop first. I didn't see the point of getting up and un-plugging before taking the changer out of the laptop.
Anyway,
Thanks For The Tip!

It's no big deal to unplug charger from power cord.

If you notice, that rectangular box also gets hot from being plugged in too long. I think it needs a break now and then...when not computing for a while....like when going out of town for two week ski trip. Unplug anything that gets hot.

@ 96accord,
My PC is currently on at my house and I am at work. lol

Hmmm...that opens up another topic. I wonder if home PC must be on for office PC to communicate with it for really long distance networking. Like retrieving or sending files.

My home PC is not on because I need to communicate with it from the office. It is just on because I choose to have it on. Sometimes I am downloading files; but I leave it up for my Instant Messaging w/ an away message.
