Networking Vista with XP

While resolving networking issues between multiple OSs , I have observed that if you want to make Vista and XP talk to each other , you have to create 2 seperate accounts on both the systems with the same name and password. Systems although can ping each other , you will not be able to share a drive or printer unless you go thorugh this tric. WOuld like to know how others feel about this and whether this is a workaround or a resolution to cross OS networking??

We've had to do it that way even when both PC's were on XP.

It might be a "dirty" way of connecting but at least it does work.
