Networking printing slow

Ok guys, I hope you can help me on this. I have two Vista computers running on a home network behind a Linksys router.

The problem is that when printing it takes a long time for MS word to print.

Computer 1 is a desktop running vista home and computer 2 is a laptop running vista home. The printer is connected to the laptop. I can print from both machines, but it takes a long time to print. Also the laptop is running slow. It takes along time to boot up.

I'd suggest not bundling problems together unless you're quite sure they're related. The slow-to-boot thing may have absolutely nothing to do with the printing delays.

What does "slow" printing mean in quantative terms? 10 seconds? 30? 15 minutes?

Is printing slow to start, as in no activity at all from the printer until the very end, or does the printer start doing stuff straight away but take its time to complete?

Is the delay specific and limited to MS Word? Do Notepad and other applications exhibit the exact same behaviour?

Have you updated the print drivers?

Connect the printer directly to the desktop and trying printing a document from the desktop and then the laptop.
