Hi cowsquad,

Welcome to Vista Forums!

Please follow all the instructions in the following article: http://www.vistax64.com/network-sharing/284688-network-posting-tips.html. Items 1 & 2 will help me understand your network setup and item 3 may help resolve the problem by resetting some configurations.

Also, please provide the manufacturer, make, and model of the router to which you are trying to connect (is it the Linksys WRT54G - 01?) and the wireless security parameters you are using (everything but the key).

Thanks and good luck!

Hi cowsquad,

I need the upper part of IPCONFIG/ALL as well (all of it). You just provided the ending which doesn't contain anything useful. It may take 2 or 3 shots to get the entire thing.

What went wrong with step 3? Did you get an error message (if so, what word-for-word)? Is it that you don't understand the procedure - if so, please explain where you don't understand and I'll try to provide a more detailed description.

Go to Control Panel / Network and Sharing Center / Manage wireless Connections. Right click on the connection with problems and click properties and go to the Security Tab. What is the security type and the encryption type? Make sure that's where you enter the key. If the other parameters aren't set (or are incorrect), then without router information, I have no idea what's appropriate. Check the machine that's working and see what it has for that information and enter the same thing.

Do you have access to the Router? Look underneath it and there should be a label with the Manufacturer, make, and model number (and perhaps other information that might help). The manufacturer may also be somewhere on the outer router casing if not on the label.

Check the computer manufacturer and/or the wireless card manufacturer and obtain the most updated drivers, software, and/or firmware for the wireless card and install it to see if that helps resolve the problem. Once you have the drivers, you can install them through Device Manager as follows: http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/193584-device-manager-install-driver.html (or however the manufacturer suggests if they provide a different methodology).

I hope this helps.

Good luck!

Hi cowsquad,

According to IPCONFIG/ALL the Wireless Adapter is showing as diconnected for this connection. That explains why it doesn't work. But I don't understand why it is showing as disconnected for this connection but seems to be working for the other connections. Something is messed up with this connection setup.

I recommend you go to the W7 computer that connects to this network and open up all the information about the connection. Then go to the Vista computer that doesn't connect and create a whole new wireless connections with exactly the same settings as are on the W7 computer. Be sure to check ALL the settings as we don't know where the error exists. I believe they are similar enough that you'll be able to duplicate it exactly. Then delete the old connection and reboot. Then try and connect again with the new connection. If it fails again, do another IPCONFIG/ALL and see if the wireless card shows information or says it is still disconnected.

I hope this helps.

Good luck.

This usually works for me if a Wireless card is the Problem - I would reinstall the Drivers for that Wireless card and then Re-enter any Information also please ensure that the Wireless card is on

See Attchment for more Information

YOU WILL NEED TO BE AN ADMINISTRATOR TO DO THIS

Hope This Helps,
Josh
