network printing- printer offline

Hi there, I have annoying problem with my Vista laptop. I have a brother HL2040 printer which is hooked up to a Dlink router USB printer port. This works well with an old XP laptop and a couple of Macs. However the vista laptop is a pain. What happens is that I can install it fine and print to it. It works well till the computer is switched off or goes to sleep and then the printer goes offline and nothing I seem to do will fix it, short of deleteing the printer and re installing it. As you can probably imagine this is a pain every time you go to print something. Any suggestions? fixes?

Go to search
type devices and printer
right click on the printer and troubleshoot.
Make sure it is the default printer.
