I have a problem with my network tray icon. After startup it takes another minute or so for the icon to show my connection. During this time it has a red X on it and i can t access anything that needs UAC approval (e.g. Core Temp, msconfig etc.).
I tried disabling UAC, Windows Defender, ReadyBoost, Superfetch with no avail. I also tried to start the pc with the network cable unplugged... I encounter this issue also on my laptop with Vista 32bit. On these systems i had Bitdefender, Kaspersky and ESET so i don t think it s AV related. Also nothing changed when i installed SP2.
However i can browse my drives and applications like winamp or vlc that dont generate a user account control "continue" window. Vista starts in about 36-38 seconds, it restarts in about 65... no performance issues pending so i don t know where else to look.
I appreciate any suggestion.
EDIT. i read that is somehow related to the Workstation Service. If i disable the service and restart the taskbar icons appear quicker but the network icon still has the red X and i can t access programs that need UAC approval until my network appears.
