Network 60-sec problem (not wireless)

I tried this over in gaming and got no response.

I have a Vista Home Premium 64-bit with Service Pack 2 and DirectX 10. AMD Quadcore processing manufactured by HP.

Problem:
I am receiving lag spikes every 60 seconds or so on internet gaming (i.e. COD 4, Half-Life 2). Every other post related to this problem mentions wireless, but my desktop is connected to the router via an Ethernet cable. There is a Vista laptop hooked up to the router via wireless, but I don't know if this would affect the desktop.

Are you using homegroup? If not you can disable IPv6, in network and sharing. IPv6 has been shown to cuase ramdom drops, spikes, etc
