Need To Stop Microsoft Update Install

About three weeks ago I was reviewing the Optional Windows Updates and for some reason I checked:

nVidia - Display - NVIDIA GeForce 9200M GS 83.6 MB

and clicked OK. This optional update has been on the optional list for several months and I purposely haven't installed it because everything has been running just fine. A few days after pulling that lever I did some research on the update and saw nothing but grief in my future.

At some point, I tried System Restore but apparenty it didn't go back far enough. Now everytime I log on, I get the message below:
_______________________________________________________________
Device Software Installation
Windows will now finish installing software from the manufacturers of this device:

NVIDIA GeForce 9200M GS

  • Finish installing software (recommended)
    • This additional software may be necessary for you device to function properly.
  • Ask me again later
    • Windows will ask again the next time you plug in your device or log on.

I continue to choose 'Ask me again later' but it's getting old.

  • Is there any way to cancel this software install?
  • Is it possible to locate the file to be installed and delete it?
Thank you for reading my post.

Try going directly to nvidia and downloading the latest driver for your model GPU.

Then turn automatic updates off.

Windows Update offers two choices:

Finish installing software (recommended)
  • This additional software may be necessary for you device to function properly.

Ask me again later
  • Windows will ask again the next time you plug in your device or log on.

If the only update is the video driver see if you can get a newer one from nvidia. If so, let it install the Windows one. Then just install the one you downloaded. If the nvidia driver is newer Windows should then leave you alone. Then shut updates off until your system settles out.
